Positive Visualization – Seeing And Attracting The Possible Into Your Life

You’ve heard the saying, “If you believe you can, you will.” But how do you get to that point of belief? How do you train yourself to believe that you can do something you want to do?

A great way to accomplish a goal (especially one that may seem daunting in the beginning) is to practice the technique of positive visualization.

First, ask yourself what it is you wish to accomplish. Unleash your imagination and let your mind go over your goals (both short and long term). If you have fallen out of the habit of letting your imagination run wild, this may take a few tries. Remember how good you were at dreaming as a child and tap into that experience. Search your soul. Ask yourself what you want to get out of life. Examine where you are at this point and ask yourself if this is where you want to be.

The first step is sometimes the most painful in this process because it is the step of self examination. Be honest with yourself, but be kind as well. You may not be living the life you imagined as a child; however, there may have been things beyond your control that has kept you from getting to the ultimate goals you set as a young adult.

Now that you have asked yourself what you want out of life, you are ready to start the positive visualization process. Find a quiet place with no distractions in which to practice your positive visualization. You want to eliminate as much distraction as possible, so close your eyes and breathe in deeply through your nose and exhale slowly through your mouth. By doing this, you are relaxing your body and preparing your mind.

Next, think of one of the goals you have. For example, if you want to be a writer, focus on this goal. Imagine that you are sitting in front of a computer (or a notebook or chalkboard or whatever will help get your creativity flowing). Think of what you would be doing if you could quit your current job and write all the time. Don’t let negative thoughts intrude. At this point, you are giving your imagination free reign and you don’t want to let “reality” crush the process. Picture yourself doing the things you want to do rather than the things you have to do.
