How To Save A Relationship That Is Going Downhill

Once you’ve come up with an action plan, put it into action immediately and every so often evaluate how you are doing. Sit down perhaps once a week with your list and go over it. Discuss how the relationship is changing or how it could be improved even more. The biggest key is communicating what you want and / or need in that relationship and knowing what your partner needs.

Another aspect of how to save a relationship is the management of conflict. Conflict will occur in relationships so it is also important to discuss how you want to handle conflict.

Will you allow screaming at each other or walking out and slamming the door? Will you just brush away conflict like it is not there? Discuss how you would like to see conflict handled. Would you like to allow a certain amount of time to process things?

Sometimes it is necessary to keep your distance to process your emotions before sitting down to talk. Acting as if conflict is not there will eventually destroy a relationship. Stuffing your feelings instead of discussing them will not improve your relationship.

Communication is key – this applies whether you are learning how to save a relationship or simply how to get any relationship going. If you have a difficult time communicating with your partner, it’s alright, but it’s something that you ought to learn to improve for an optimal relationship. Communication skills can be improved.

Here’s to a long lasting, joyous relationship!
