Attitude and Outlook Change the Way Life Looks

In life, we meet many people of different dispositions, outlooks and attitudes.

What amazes me is how stark the differences can be – some people can remain astonishingly positive in the face of hardship, obstacles and adversity, while some others are forever cursing their lack of opportunities, bad luck and near misses.

And one very obvious thing has struck me – those who complain the most do not necessarily experience the worst circumstances, while those who maintain a positive disposition have not necessarily been dealt the worst hands in life.

Another thing I realized is that top people in various fields usually carry a can-do attitude – they often view obstacles as challenges which can be overcome. It’s not that they do not experience bad luck, and it’s not that they have not encountered failure. In fact, they have probably failed many times. But they always manage to pick themselves up and soldier on. If they can’t bash their obstacles down, they find ways to go around them.

Similarly, happy people are happy not because only good things happen to them, but simply because they are in better harmony with their life circumstances. Perhaps they have learnt to better deal with their setbacks in life, or maybe they are just more able to take things in their stride. The fact of the matter is, many bad things happen to happy people, too, and, on the flip side, unhappy people also experience many good things.

The difference, quite simply, is attitude and outlook. And the wonderful thing is that, unlike life circumstances, which we can often have no control whatsoever over, our outlook and attitude exist within us, and are things which we can develop, hone and shape over time.

Change your attitude and outlook, and suddenly life takes a different image, and the world looks like a very different place.
