Possible Causes Of Workplace Stress – Factors Which Contribute

What if, instead of having work taken away, you are suddenly promoted? A new job can cause enormous amounts of workplace stress if the person who has received the increase in job status, even with a larger salary, does not feel comfortable in a situation where he or she has additional responsibility.

Constant interruptions are a frequent cause of workplace stress. Try to minimize interruptions by informing people that you must concentrate on the task in hand. Pollution, whether it is caused by noise or the air quality in the working environment, can cause workplace stress if workers are not provided with adequate protection.

A very different cause of workplace stress is harassment by a coworker or supervisor. Whatever the reason is, whether it is sexual, ethnic, religious, or the threat of possible violence from an unstable coworker, it must not be tolerated. Naturally, this kind of behavior should be immediately brought to the attention of a manager or supervisor. If there was a failure to take action and deal with the harassment issues, this would add greatly to the stress of the worker involved.

Many workers bring stress to work with them from home; bills are overdue, relationships are strained, children feel deprived if the parents can’t afford to buy them the latest in electronic games – the list goes on and on. Unexpected bills add to the stress – how do you face your family if you can’t afford to take a beloved pet to the vet? What do you do about unforeseen car repairs? If you then have to face more stress in the workplace, life can seem unbearable.

Try to identify the causes of workplace stress which are affecting your life and make a plan to deal with them by accepting the situations you can’t change. If you can do this, you should find the unavoidable work-related stress easier to handle.
