Dating A Single Parent – Taking A Single Mom Or Dad On A Date

While it is very important that you and your new partner have some time with just the two of you, you also need to plan activities that all of you can do together. Remember, the children are the most important people in that single parent’s life, so you want to show that not only do you accept the package deal, you are looking for ways all of you can spend time together. Some great ways to do this is to plan a trip to a park or local beach. Take the family out for a nice dinner at a restaurant all can enjoy. If your single parent partner has young children, a great dinner out could be at a place like Chucky Cheese.

Also remember that since you are dating a single parent, they have a lot of obligations and may not have as much time as a single person with no children. A great way to not only get to know your new partner better, but to also get to know the children, is to volunteer to do some activities for the family, such as helping with grocery shopping or homework. You can also volunteer to do things like drive the children to and from school or after school activities such as dance or sports.

When you meet the children, just be yourself. Children are very perceptive and can recognize if you are trying to snow them over. Give them time to get to know you. Show an interest in the children. Remember, your partner’s children may even resent you – they may see you as trying to take the place of a beloved parent, so you need to give the child room and a chance to really get to know you better.

Dating a single parent doesn’t have to be a headache. By simply being yourself, recognizing that the person comes as part of a package deal, and giving your partner and your partner’s children time to get to know you better, you can create a lasting relationship with many rewards.
