Insights To Goal Setting And Time Management

There is a definite link between goal setting and time management, and here are some insights to help you with improving these aspects of your life, boosting your productivity and lowering your stress levels.

Who wouldn’t benefit from learning to get their priorities set and in order, or managing your time to meet the relevant deadlines that occur throughout our lifetime. Effectively organizing our day, with its many activities, is how we will achieve our goals, learn to make smarter decisions, and avoid burnout in the process.

Probably one of the hardest challenges we will ever face is learning to set attainable goals and then manage our time in order to accomplish them. This is a process that does take time, learned one skill at a time. And any psychological reason for faulty management of your time may also need to be dealt with – why you tend to procrastinate, or have such a hard time saying no, making the right decisions concerning your time or delegating anything that can get by without your personal touch.

Most people do not realize that goal setting and time management come together – by setting goals and learning to manage your time each day, you gain more control of your life, as well as the amount of stress you experience or the energy levels you are able to maintain. In a perfect world, there is a balance between work, family and personal time. There is also flexibility as spaces of time open up due to better planning of your time. You actually make progress each day.

Any goal must start with that first idea. Oftentimes that’s as far as we get. We know we need guidance in the area but have not got the time to read a book on the subject or listen to the appropriate audio tapes or falling asleep once we have relaxed. Our very first objective then must be not to give up, but to find a way to improve our goal setting and time management.

For instance, if you travel back and forth to work everyday, use it for listening to audio tapes on ways to get organized or manage time more effectively. While a lot of tape series have a myriad of information that does not pertain to us, it will more than likely have a nugget or two that will be just the thing we need. Most importantly, the positive message will inspire us to go forward filled with this positive energy.

Actually, learning tidbits of information over time is the best way to retain the material we need and, most of the time, if we just become aware of how important managing our time is and what causes most common personal time management problems, we are half way toward solving our problem.

Procrastination is a very real problem people, who have the desire to manage their time in a more practical way, face. Waiting for the right mood to strike, or the right time, undermines your goals. Underestimating the difficulty of your project or the time required to bring the task to completion is another reason people put off what needs to be done today. Probably the most common are fear of failure, inability to make the decision, or demanding a level of perfection you cannot easily reach.
