Reaching Balance Between Peace And Productivity, Stress And Success

Instead, he suggests you imagine a container deep within you, a container which your thoughts flow out of. Now, imagine a candle flame in the middle of this container. Next, you need to commit to the notion that this candle flame will not ever flicker, no matter how bad a situation you are going through. He calls this container your “container of peace“. To keep your candle flame burning, only peaceful thoughts will do the job. This is his suggestion to help you become a “being of peace”.

Do not underestimate the power of a being of peace. Someone who has decided to be peace can actually snuff out the tensions in others. The peaceful energy oozing out of you can affect others in a positive way, and they can subconsciously become more peaceful, too.

Dyer sums this up with the statement, “Be the peace and harmony you desire.” He advises us to practice giving away peace, to be a peace maker in various different situations, and to “leave your ego outside” your container of peace, “where it can’t extinguish your candle flame”.

He also mentions the prayer of St Francis of Assisi, “Make me an instrument of thy peace”, as a means to help you become peace. Simply by asking, you will make inroads toward becoming the peace that you seek.

Wayne Dyer also urges us to slow down in life, asking us to make “being in balance with the Source of Creation” the main priority of our existence. Go slow. Be deliberate. Be conscious of life and things which are around you. Stop that mental chatter in your head. Observe, contemplate and appreciate the surroundings and universe around you. Spend more quality time with your family, friends and other loved ones.

Let this new way of living also extend to everything else – the way you walk, and your interactions with co-workers and even strangers. Stop rushing and take time to smell the roses. Do you realize that, most of the time when you zip from place to place, either on foot or in a vehicle, you actually do not save much time, and in fact, being that little bit earlier actually makes virtually no difference at all? But that whole act of being in a hurry subsumes you and eats away at your ability to live life to the fullest.

This line from Dyer, I feel, summarizes this aspect of balance very well: “Become conscious of your desire to be at peace, and then match your present-moment thoughts to that desire.”

And as you become peace and attain balance, you will, ironically and somewhat paradoxically, actually improve your productivity!

I am reminded of the lines of another beautiful hymn: “Let there be peace on Earth, and let it begin with me. Let there be peace on Earth, the peace that was meant to be.”

Let’s work towards being peace.
