Procrastination Strategies To Help You Get Going And Get Doing

The second procrastination strategy is to set realistic goals for yourself. (If it helps, make a mental list of how completing the tasks will benefit you; the first thing on your list should be how good you’ll feel when the first task is done!) Don’t plan on cleaning the whole house from top to bottom; choose one room to tackle first and break the job down into smaller pieces – such as sorting through all the old magazines in the living room and throwing out the ones you don’t need. Or make a start on a messy kitchen by cleaning out two or three of the kitchen drawers where all the clutter ends up.

If your procrastination strategy needs to be used at work, then you need to concentrate on one task at a time. If you can’t allot enough time to complete it in one day, remember your ‘small steps’. If you can achieve one or two small successes, you’ll begin to feel less stressed. But don’t stop there; set yourself several more tasks to be completed tomorrow. Give yourself a deadline and stick to it. Remember, if you don’t even try, then your stress level will rise until you can barely function either at work or at home.

Again, don’t be afraid to ask for help. If you have a spouse and children, sit down with them and ask each of them to make a list of things they can do to help. If you have an assistant or co-worker at the office, ask them for help – or ask them what procrastination strategies they use to avoid becoming stressed about a situation.

And going forward, as soon as you’re assigned a task to do at work, make a list of the things you need to do by a certain date – and make sure you finish them by that date. When it comes to procrastination strategies, preparation is everything.

Think of how relaxed you’ll feel when you have everything organized. But don’t allow your procrastination to take over your life again – be prepared, concentrate on what you’re doing, set deadlines for yourself, and things will fall into place.

They say that only Robinson Crusoe had everything done by Friday, but if you use your procrastination strategies, then you can too!
