Improving The Mother Son Relationship And Celebrating A Special Bond

One of the most special bonds a man will form in his lifetime is that between mother and son. His mother is one of the most important people in his life. Sometimes, this relationship can become strained, however, and tensions build.

There are some things that you can do to improve your relationship (from the mother’s and the son’s perspective). Mother son relationships are key to how the man will be in his future relationships with other women, so it is important that the mother son relationship be a healthy one.

First, it is important to note that most mothers would do anything for their children (including dying for them). Mothers carry great responsibilities regarding their children’s needs, wants and development. The bond between a mother and son is formed long before the child is born.

Mothers are central to the son’s life because that is his first and primary caregiver. Mothers give birth, provide nourishment and comfort; therefore, they are a son’s world for the first few years of his life. While this is not to negate the importance of the father in the son’s life, the mother is the one who the son initially recognizes as his source of food and safety.

Since the first few years of the son’s life are key to his development, it is important that his mother form a strong, healthy attachment between herself and her son. Studies have shown that male children who do not form attachments to their mothers are less likely to have successful relationships in the future. Additionally, those who form overly strong attachments to their mothers also have relationship difficulties in the future.

As part of a healthy mother son relationship, it is important for mothers to foster their son’s independence as he grows older. Mothers should give sons age appropriate responsibilities as he grows older, so he can be more independent and learn who he is as an individual. This is sometimes difficult for a mother to do. Most women are natural nurturers, and this is never more evident than when they have sons. They want to do everything they can to make their child’s life easier. The downside to this is that their sons grow up without the skills necessary to be truly independent.
