Fighting Depression – Healing Is Easier With Social Support

Learn From Roles Models

All kinds of big names, famous celebrities and popular figures have suffered from and successfully overcome depression. These include movie stars, singers and artistes, writers, as well as professional sportsmen.

Some examples of famous and established persons who possibly suffered from one form of depression or the other include Charles Dickens, Robbie Williams, Dorothy Parker, Michelangelo, Abraham Lincoln, Beethoven, Charles Darwin, Winston Churchill, and Isaac Newton.

Find someone who inspires you or whom you look up to, and use their stories of healing as your source of strength and inspiration.

It is common that well-known and celebrated personalities are looked up to as role models, so the same can be the case for someone who is fighting depression. Of course, we should try to learn the good things about their behavior and lives, and not the less than desirable choices and habits.

And it is important to learn from role models who actually defeated depression, and not those who succumbed to it.

Help Others

Princess Diana suffered from depression after giving birth to her son, William. She took to binge eating and even cut herself. But then she began giving and sharing, and her charity work began to light up not on the lives of thousands of other people, but also her own life.

There is a reason why it’s often said that the best way to get over our own problems is to help others.

Do Volunteer Work

Have you ever tried doing volunteer work? If not, it may be something to explore. Volunteering your time enables you to meet new people and make new friends, as well as to reach out to the less fortunate members of society – both these aspects help in your efforts to prevent and beat depression.
