Easy Meditation Techniques Anyone Can Use

Clearing the mechanism

Some pitchers in baseball call it clearing the mechanism. The idea is the clear your mind of all thoughts and distractions. Different people use different techniques.

If you have ever imagined the vastness of outer space, then picture yourself floating through it. You pass galaxies and planets and stars. Eventually, you reach the end of the universe. Beyond that is nothing. Once you reach that imaginary wall at the end of the universe, push on into total darkness.

You’ll find that clearing the mechanism requires a great deal of practice to perfect. If you keep at it, though, you will get it.

One simple meditation technique is to sit still in a dark room, light a candle, and then focus your entire attention and being on only two things – the candle flame, as well as your breathing. Inhale and exhale slowly and deliberately.

By focusing on the candle flame – practically staring at it, you are essentially stilling and calming your mind and soul and bringing your entire attention into the present moment.

Another easy meditation technique entails closing your eyes, then repeating and meditating upon a single word as you breathe slowly and deliberately. It can be any word, really. Christians may use the word “Jesus” or “Maranatha”, which can be translated to mean “Come, Lord Jesus”, while Buddhists may use the word “Om”. You could even use simple words like “Peace” or “Joy“.

The idea, again, is to clear and calm your mind and bring it into the present moment, while focusing upon the meaning of the word you are repeating, attracting it into your life.

For this latter method, the repetition of a word can actually be replaced by a repetitive sound, such as the sound emitted by knocking a pen on the table.

These are just a few easy meditation techniques that you can use to help soothe your body and mind. Notice that they often centre around a few key things – your breathing, clearing your mind of clutter and distractions, and bringing your focus and attention into the present moment.

Such easy meditation techniques are a great thing to do on a daily basis as it helps your body and mind to relax and get set for a good night’s sleep, or if you do it in the morning, then it gets you ready to handle the wide open day. Not only do they help you physically and mentally, they improve you emotionally and spiritually, too.
