Beautiful Songs About Friendship To Celebrate Special Friends

We all have our favorite songs about friendship. They often take us back in time to a special event or a place we’ve been with old friends.

Sometimes, they make us happy and remember the occasion with fondness, but at other times they remind us of sad occasions. They often give us a feeling of nostalgia for people and places from our past and remind us of good times with friends who have disappeared from our lives.

One of my favorite songs about remembering past friendships is “In My Life” by The Beatles, in which they talk about the places they’ll remember all their lives and the fact that all the places had good memories of lovers and friends they still remember. This song can bring back vibrant memories of who we were with, what we were doing when we heard the song for the first time, and thought about how appropriate it was.

Of course, many songs about friendship bring us happy memories of recent events that we’ve shared with our friends of today; friends who have helped us through the rough patches and who have been there to give us a shoulder to cry on, or who have made us laugh helplessly at something that only we thought was funny.

Songs like Mariah Carey’s “Anytime You Need A Friend”, Simon & Garfunkel’s “Bridge Over Troubled Waters” and “Let Me Be There” by Olivia Newton John are songs that tell the listener that they have a friend who’ll be there when they’re in need of one. “Lean On Me” sung by Bill Withers is about all of us needing someone to help us when we’re down. The lyrics state that the singer is offering to help a friend and saying that it won’t be long before he himself needs someone to lean on.

“You’ve Got a Friend” sung by James Taylor, “The Wind Beneath My Wings” recorded by Bette Midler and “Because You Loved Me” from Celine Dion are all songs about the value of friendship and how necessary those friends are when things get tough.

The classic song about friendship, “That’s What Friends Are For” was sung by Dionne Warwick and her friends Gladys Knight, Stevie Wonder and Elton John, and released in order to benefit AIDS research – it made a lot of money for the foundation and earned two Grammy Awards.

There aren’t as many funny songs about friendship but “I’ll Be There for You” by The Rembrandts, which is the theme song from the TV series, Friends, and “Thank You For Being a Friend” from another TV show, The Golden Girls, celebrate the humor that can be found in friendships. “Joy to the World” by Three Dog Night – the one about Jeremiah the bullfrog – is hard to listen to without singing along. It’s a great song to add to your list of songs about friendship.

You might want to make your own list of songs about friendship for your iPod, CD player or phone and share it with your friends – the ones who’ve helped you through the bad times, celebrated with you the good times, and sometimes made you laugh so hard you snorted soda out of your nose.

Friends are necessary to life; we can’t live without friends, so cherish the ones you have, mourn the ones you’ve lost, and keep looking for new ones to add to your circle.
