Advice For Surviving A Breakup After A Relationship Ends

If you were the one who made the decision to break up, then you will probably be feeling guilty at the pain you have caused to someone you once cared about. Perhaps you still care, but not in a romantic way. If they call, listen to what they have to say but be firm in your decision to end things between you. If they persist in following you around and turning up at your old haunts, make sure you don’t leave yourself vulnerable and make sure that someone is with you when you go home.

Surviving a breakup should give you the opportunity to grow as a person, whether you ended the relationship or not. Try to gain something positive from the experience and learn to accept the situation. You had fun before you met your ex, so why can’t you have fun now?

As part of surviving a breakup, allow yourself to go back to being the person you used to be and recreate your life; perhaps you enjoyed doing things before you met your ex that he or she wasn’t interested in? Go back to the gym; take those foreign language classes you didn’t have time for; sign up for line dancing lessons with your friends – there are so many options open to you now that you are independent again. Take advantage of your freedom!

Try not to worry about the future – you have very little control over it. Don’t be afraid that you’ll end up alone or lonely. Take care of today. One of my favorite sayings is, “Yesterday was history; tomorrow is a mystery. Today is a gift – that’s why it’s called The Present.” So make the effort to forget about your history, enjoy the gift of today, and don’t worry about the mystery of the future – this attitude will help you greatly with surviving a breakup!
